From an unsuccessful Season 79 campaign that saw a 2-12 win-loss record, UP’s women’s basketball team enters the brand new season with a stronger lineup and a newfound winning culture.
“Last season, the team struggled to get the support and wins we needed but we pushed through it together,” guard Alecsi Viray said.
But this time, with a good mix of veterans and rookies, plus winning experience in their preseason leagues, these Fighting Maroons are set to put up a good fight in UAAP Season 80.
But in order for them to continue the good fight for respect and basketball glory, the team needs support.
“It is a process of getting into that winning column, but we need budget and support for everything. Budget for the uniforms, food, and even coaches’ allowance - because it is us coaches who usually pay for all of it,” head coach Kenneth Raval shared.
UP’s WBT is not just a team of passionate ballers but excellent student-athletes as well. Aside from producing national team players, the team has produced lawyers, doctors, and accountants. This means investing in this team is not just investing on basketball players but on future servants of the nation as well.
