After a better Season 79 campaign with five wins in the 6th spot, the only logical way to go for the UP Men's Basketball Team is to aim for the Final Four.
"This is going to be new territory for us barging and wanting to be in the Final Four. For the longest time I don't think that is in the mindset of our program. Mahirap gawin pero we are up for the challenge para sa program," second year head coach Bo Perasol said.
The team may have been under the radars for such a long time. But this season, as they are headlined by King Maroon Paul Desiderio, the Maroons are set for greater heights. Supporting him are prized recruits Jun Manzo and Ibrahim Quattara plus FIBA 3x3 U18 standout rookie Juan Gomez de Liano. The team's veterans Diego Dario, Kyles Lao, and Jarell Lim will also provide direction for the Season 80 campaign.
And that direction is towards winning. "Nasa moniker namin ang Fighting Maroons pero sabi ko ang tagal na nating fighting ng fighting lang. Kailangan na natin manalo, nakakasawa na puro fighting eh. Kailangan may resulta ang aming fighting. Para sa programa. Para sa community," Perasol rallied.
The Maroons did so much hard work in the preseason as they joined and won several pocket tournaments, attended basketball camps, and bonded through out-of-town and even out-of-the-country trips. The team that you will see donning the Maroon and Green this season is not just a team, but a family.
This Season 80, as Perasol's second year as the head coach and with a very talented roster of players, it's time to reap the fruits of their hard study and hard work.
As Desiderio once said, "Wala ng rason para di pa manalo."
