Throughout the years, the UP Fencing Team has found considerable success in the UAAP.
Despite being an individual sport, the team draws support and inspiration from their teammates. Tight relationship among the team makes the squad a second family and helps them grow in the sport. The team is overflowing with potential with a lot of young talent in the lineup, and a nudge in the right direction will make the team an even stronger contender in the UAAP.
However, the team’s success doesn’t come without any challenges: they have always made the best of available facilities, but can achieve quite a lot more if given the right facilities and equipment.
The team trains without a piste, a thin metal strip where fencers bout. During competitions, the team has to quickly adjust moving with a piste and this gives them a significant disadvantage. At times, equipment also fails to pass the UAAP’s weapon check and is only remedied by the coaching staff.
